Art Exhibition – Ordinary Days
Ordinary Days is an exhibition of work by a group of extremely talented young artists, aged 8 to 18. They are all members of a local club, ARTYGalina.
They are back by popular demand, having showcased their talents in our Gallery on previous occasions. Nurtured by their very gifted teacher and local resident, Galina Rafilailova, the group have produced an exceptional collection of mixed media paintings, inspired by a quote from Jiddu Krishnamurti who said: "To understand the immeasurable, the mind must be extraordinary quiet, still".
Galina commented: “In the world we live in, full of hustle and bustle, it’s easy to lose yourself in stressful projects, school or work… We applied this quote to our art, aiming to capture the ordinary, calm occasions in life which nowadays are so rare that they can be considered extraordinary.”
What started as a craft activity for her young daughter and a friend in 2010, ARTYGalina has grown to become a regular art club which prepares children who wish to continue their love of the subject at university. “It all started with 2 children and after a few weeks the group expanded to 10 pupils and that is how the club was formed”. ARTYGalina, who meet twice a week, now has in excess of 30 pupils. The youngsters explore a variety of disciplines including pencil drawing, painting, embroidery, sculpting and lino cutting to develop their artistic skills.
